Listening to Nature: A Forest Sound Meditation for Children

Introduction

Take the children to the forest.

Start by everyone sitting down or lie down in a circle; whichever feels most comfortable for you.

Gently close your eyes, and let’s begin a magical journey of listening to the sounds of the forest.

  1. Take a Deep Breath: Start by taking a deep breath in through your nose. Fill your lungs….and…aahhh… .exhale. Take another breathe in your nose and feel the air going in your nostrils. What does that feel like? How does the air feel on your skin. What temperature is the air?

  2. Focus on the Forest: This is a beautiful, peaceful forest. Picture the tall trees, the soft green leaves, and the dappled sunlight filtering through. Tune into nature’s wonders here in the forest.

  3. Listen Carefully: Now, begin to listen to the sounds around you. What can you hear? Maybe it’s the rustling of leaves in the wind, the chirping of birds high up in the trees, or the distant murmur of a stream. Pay attention to each sound as it comes and goes.

  4. Breathe and Relax: As you listen to the forest sounds, continue to breathe slowly and deeply. Feel yourself becoming one with nature, just like the animals and birds in the forest.

  5. Imagine the Creatures: Imagine the creatures living in the forest. Can you picture squirrels hopping from branch to branch or a gentle deer grazing nearby? Create vivid images in your mind.

  6. Feel Gratitude: Take a moment to feel happy. Aren’t we grateful for this peaceful time in nature? Think about how wonderful it is to be a part of this beautiful world

  7. Slowly Return: When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes and return to the present moment.

A Final Thought

The forest is always waiting for you to explore its beautiful sounds and wonders.
